Paintings by Scott B. Royston

A Maryland Artist, Scott Royston was born in Baltimore in 1974. With an early desire to become an artist, he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts followed by the Schuler School of Fine Arts and the Goucher College Arts Center
Scott’s approach to his oil painting is to capture clarity and detail to the fullest degree. He admires the classical Dutch Old Master realists of the 16th, 17th and 18th century. He loves the challenge of the classic still life with difficult reflections and overlapping shadows. His paintings are high drama with strong contrasts and bold color. “ In my compositions, I want the viewers eye to go around the whole composition, to follow and see the flow of the painting
Why still life? “I like realism, refinement of detail; I am a perfectionist... even when I go shopping at the grocery store, I look for the perfect peach or green pepper. I’m very selective of what I paint. I have made it a goal to find new things to paint that inspire me
Scott has been showing his oil paintings in galleries and juried exhibitions since 1993. He has received numerous awards and honors for his work. In 1999 and 2002 Scott was selected to receive The Rottler Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts. Scott’s painting “Tassles” was selected as a finalist in the Still life category of The Artist’s Magazine’s 2000 Annual Art Competition, as was “Southwest Irises” in 2002, “A Tassel Concerto” in 2003 and in 2004 he was awarded an Honorable Mention for “Hands Across America.” In January 2004 he was acknowledged in The Artist’s Magazine as an artist to watch in “On the Rise” and in August 2004 in an article about his Dutch Old Master painting techniques, “Handing over the Keys.” The Salmagundi Club, N.Y, awarded him the AAPL Medal of Honor in 2004 for “A Little Tea with your Lemon.”
Scott Royston is an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America and The International Guild of Realism
