Nancy Depew -1955

Nancy Depew paints figures and nature subjects in a meticulous style that allies her with the contemporary realist tradition. By skillfully manipulating pictorial devices such as pose, gesture, and point of view, she conveys feeling and emotion in addition to producing an exquisitely crafted work of art
Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, in 1955, Nancy Depew studied at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania (B.A.) and at the State University of New York at Albany (M.F.A.). She has been the recipient of several painting fellowships from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation and from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts
Depew’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited widely. She has had numerous one-man shows, most recently at the Noyes Museum of Art, Stockton College, New Jersey (2011), and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, New Jersey (2002), as well as at other galleries around New Jersey and elsewhere. Her paintings and drawings have also been featured in many group exhibitions devoted to realism, surrealism and figuration in late twentieth-century art. For example, Depew has participated exhibitions such at the New Jersey Fine Arts Annual (1998 and 1999) and Art Initiatives, New York (1996, 1995, 1994, and 1992)
She has taught studio art and art history at a wide array of art schools, museums, and related educational institutions, and has presented a variety of lectures and gallery talks not only on her own work, but also on topics such as The Figurative Impulse, Polarities in Art Making, andMastering Identity
